Since the completion of his degree in Middle Eastern Studies and Ethnomusicology, Murat Coskun has been working as a professional percussionist, mostly in the fields of World Music, Early Music, Jazz, and experimental percussion.
In 1998 he won the SWR World Music Prize for his performance with the oriental jazz ensemble FizFüz.

He studied classical and sacred music as well as Middle Eastern and Eastern European folk-music. He was taught by the renowned Afghan percussionist Hakim Ludin.
Field visits to such cultural centres as Istanbul and Damaskus added to Murat Coskun‘s musical expertise.
